July 2005 Major consultation drive for Dalston Junction Local residents and everyone who uses Dalston Town Centre are being given an opportunity to find out more about the possible proposals for the East London Line Station at Dalston Junction after a new dedicated website and hotline were launched today. To maximise the benefit of the transport hub proposed for Dalston, an investigation by Transport for London and the London Development Agency is currently underway to see whether there could be development above the proposed station, located between Dalston Lane, Kingsland Road and Roseberry Place. Any development would seek to create a vibrant and sustainable community for Dalston Town Centre. The proposals could offer a mix of additional new retail space; residential accommodation; public spaces; improved pedestrian links to Kingsland Road from the east; and better access between the new East London Line Station and local bus services. Colin Britt, Transport for London’s Project Leader, said: “The East London Line Station site has great potential, but is one that faces significant challenges. “We are currently exploring options given the constraints of the site and need to identify changes to the plans that would be required to accommodate development. To help us, we are keen for the local community to get involved as early as possible. A planning application has to be submitted by the end of 2005 to ensure the station opens on time, so we have to make choices about whether there can be additional development on the site over the next few months. “During this period we are keen to listen to everyone’s aspirations as this is a one-off opportunity to maximise the potential benefit that a new station could bring to the area.” For more information on the proposals and the latest events people can visit the website at www.dalstonjunction.co.uk.
